7-Year Jail Term for Azam Khan
In a significant legal development in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, along with his wife Tazeen Fatima and son Abdullah Azam, were convicted in a 2019 case related to fake birth certificates. The court’s verdict resulted in a substantial seven-year jail sentence for all three individuals.
Following the court’s decision, Azam Khan, his wife, and son were promptly taken into judicial custody and were scheduled to be transferred to prison directly from the court premises. Arun Parkash Saxena, a former District Government Counsel who represented the prosecution, confirmed this development.
The MP-MLA court magistrate, Shobit Bansal, delivered the maximum possible sentence of seven years to the convicted trio, underlining the seriousness of the case.
The case originated with an FIR filed by BJP MLA Akash Saxena at the Ganj police station in Rampur on January 3, 2019. The allegations centered on Azam Khan and his wife’s purported involvement in assisting their son in obtaining two fraudulent birth certificates. One certificate was issued in Lucknow, while the other was from Rampur.
According to the charge sheet, the certificate provided by the Rampur municipality indicated Abdullah Azam’s birthdate as January 1, 1993, while the other certificate claimed he was born in Lucknow on September 30, 1990. This conviction represents a significant legal outcome in the ongoing legal proceedings involving the Azam Khan family.
