As many as 42 cadres of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), including members of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army, surrendered before the Telangana Police.
The group handed over 36 firearms, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition, grenades, and 800 grams of gold.
The surrender took place in the presence of Director General of Police B Shivdhar Reddy.
Among those who laid down arms were key operatives such as Sodi Malla alias Keshal, a Battalion Commander, along with other senior functionaries from various Maoist committees.
The surrendered group included 21 PLGA members, 11 from the Telangana State Committee, and 10 from the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee. Except one, all cadres hailed from Chhattisgarh.
The DGP asserted that the surrender neutralised the most critical armed wing of the Maoist structure. He declared that the Telangana State Committee no longer exists, effectively rendering the state free from Maoist armed activity.
The surrendered arsenal included AK-47 rifles, SLRs, INSAS rifles, pistols, and improvised weapons. Authorities will distribute financial assistance under the state’s rehabilitation policy.
Senior cadres will receive up to Rs 20 lakh, while other members will receive graded compensation.
Authorities have sanctioned a total reward of Rs 1.93 crore for the surrender.
Officials have already disbursed interim relief to cadres from Chhattisgarh and full benefits to a Telangana-native cadre.
Since 2024, 761 Maoists have surrendered, and 302 weapons have been recovered.
The DGP credited coordinated intelligence efforts for this outcome. He urged the remaining five cadres, including senior leaders, to abandon insurgency and join mainstream society.
