A tragic incident occurred in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district where a 40-year-old woman lost her life after being attacked by a lion. The incident took place near Vadodara-Dodiya village in Verval taluka on Sunday evening, according to a forest official.
The victim, identified as Bhanuben Amheda, had ventured into the forest with a few other women from the village to collect wood when the lion attacked her. The forest in Vadodara-Dodiya is located near the seashore, and sightings of lions have been reported in the area in the past as well.
The range forest officer, Khimanand Pampaniya, stated that a group of five to six women from Vadodara-Dodiya village had gone to collect wood in the forest on Sunday afternoon. While they were returning home, a lion attacked Bhanuben, dragging her into the forest. Upon learning about the attack, forest personnel initiated a search.
The woman’s body was eventually recovered the next morning. The official explained that the forest serves as a corridor for lions to move from one place to another, and they do not typically reside there. Forest staff are currently conducting a comprehensive scan of the entire region to locate the lion involved in the tragic incident.
A few days ago, a 30-year-old man experienced a mauling by a lion in Anida village, Gadhada taluka, Botad district, while he was heading to attend nature’s call. The victim, named Ajit Solanki, sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack. Forest officials reported that it was the first lion attack of its kind in the area. According to speculation, the lion initially considered the man as potential prey but quickly retreated upon realizing that he was not its intended target.
