Operation successful

In a coordinated operation, the police and the army apprehended the suspects in the hill area of Churachandpur, 51 kilometers from Imphal, where ethnic unrest started on May 3. The forces quickly drove to the airport where a CBI team was waiting for them after apprehending them. Around 5:45 p.m., the CBI team and the suspects boarded the final flight out of Imphal.

When they learned about the arrests, some people, according to sources, tried to head for the airport. In Churachandpur, where several Kuki insurgent groups that have signed the suspension of operations (SoO) agreement are based, Colonel (retired) Nectar Sanjenbam, who was recently appointed Senior Superintendent (Combat) of Police, oversaw the covert operation to apprehend the suspects.
