23.66 Per Cent Voter Turnout Till 11 AM, Maharashtra Recorded only 15.93% Turnout

A total of 695 candidates are in the fray in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections.  According to the information pooled from the Election Commission of India, with 4.69 crore males and 4.26 crore females, 8.95 crore Indians are to cast vote on 49 parliamentary constituencies spread across the six states and two union territories in the last third phase of the 18th General elections.

The election voter turnout till 11 am for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha polls 2024 remained at 23.66%, the Election Commission of India said on Monday.

West Bengal registered the highest percentage of voter turnout till 11 am with 32.70 per cent. As per the information shared by the poll body, Bihar recorded a 21.11 per cent turnout, Jammu Kashmir registered 21.37, Jharkhand 26.18 per cent, and Odisha 21.07 per cent. However, Maharashtra only registered a voter turnout of 15.93 per cent.

Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh are the 8 states/UTs that are under the poll today in phase 5.

Of the 49 parliamentary constituencies, 13 seats are from Maharashtra, 14 from Uttar Pradesh, 7 from West Bengal, 5 from Bihar, 5 from Odisha, 3 from Jharkhand, and one each from the two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

To make the polling process smooth for the voters, 2000 flying squads, 2105 static surveillance teams, 881 video surveillance teams, and 504 video viewing teams are keeping an eye on 94,732 polling stations.

In this phase, prominent faces like Rahul Gandhi from INC, Smriti Irani of BJP, former WFI chief Brij Bhushan’s son, Karan Bhushan, Chirag Paswan, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, and Rohini Acharya of RJD are in the fray.

The 18th Lok Sabha Election is taking place in 7 phases.
