20 Dead After Massive Fire Engulfs Multi-Storey Building In Delhi’s Malviya Nagar

At least 20 people died after a fierce fire swept through a multi-storey commercial building in Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning. The incident also left numerous people injured, prompting a large-scale emergency response.

Rescue personnel evacuated 37 occupants from the premises and transported them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Medical authorities reported that some of the injured remain in a serious condition.

The rapidly spreading blaze triggered panic among those inside the building.

According to officials, several people attempted to save themselves by leaping from higher floors as smoke and flames engulfed parts of the structure.

Teams from the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, and disaster response units rushed to the location and coordinated evacuation efforts. Senior officials remained at the site to oversee rescue and recovery operations.

Authorities dispatched ten fire engines immediately after receiving reports of the fire. Firefighters succeeded in containing the blaze, but not before it caused substantial destruction within the building.

Search teams continue to comb through the property to determine whether any additional occupants remain trapped.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jitender Kumar said administrative teams reached the scene without delay after receiving the alert.

Initial assessments indicate that the fire may have originated in a restaurant operating from the basement, though investigators have not concluded.

Kumar stated that authorities would act firmly against anyone found breaching safety norms or conducting unauthorised operations. He added that relevant departments would be instructed to take action against establishments operating illegally.

Authorities are gathering evidence and assessing the extent of the damage as the investigation progresses.

Officials are expected to release further information once inquiries advance.

The tragedy follows another serious incident in the capital a day earlier, when a suspected LPG cylinder explosion caused a building collapse in Mukundpur and injured ten people.
