In the early hours of Saturday, a major derailment occurred involving the Sabarmati Express near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Around 2:30 AM, as the train was en route to Jhansi, approximately 20 coaches went off the tracks, causing significant disruption to rail traffic.
Fortunately, there were no casualties, and all passengers emerged unscathed.
The derailment was attributed to a boulder that struck the front portion of the train, severely damaging the cattle guard of the engine, as reported by railway authorities.
The incident involved the Sabarmati Express (Train No. 19168), which operates between Varanasi Junction and Ahmedabad.
Local police and emergency services, including fire trucks and ambulances, promptly responded to the accident.
The inspection however confirmed no injuries.
In response to the derailment, the Railways arranged alternative transportation for the stranded passengers.
Buses were provided to transport them from the accident site to Kanpur Railway Station, from where a special train will carry them to their respective destinations.
An eight-coach MEMU train arrived at the site to transfer passengers back to Kanpur.
Due to the disruption, seven trains have been cancelled, and three others have been diverted.
The North Central Railway Zone, under which the accident occurred, has issued multiple helpline numbers to assist those seeking information about their loved ones.

Authorities are working to restore normal rail services in the area, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
