A 17-year-old student died after suffering severe injuries in an assault by a group of teenagers in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area, police confirmed.
Police have detained six juveniles in connection with the case and registered a murder FIR at Mayur Vihar Police Station.
According to officials, police received information on January 5 at around 7:25 PM from Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital about an unconscious boy admitted after a physical attack.
Police later identified the victim as Mohit, son of Gyan Singh, a resident of Indra Camp, Trilokpuri, and a Class 11 student.
Due to the seriousness of his injuries, doctors referred Mohit to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for specialised treatment.
Medical staff declared him unfit to record a statement because of his critical condition.
Preliminary findings suggest that Mohit had a dispute with one of the juveniles from the same locality.
On the evening of the incident, he was reportedly with friends in Trilokpuri when a verbal argument erupted with a group of minors.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that several juveniles surrounded Mohit and assaulted him repeatedly. Even after he collapsed, the attack allegedly continued, while another youth who tried to intervene was also beaten. Mohit reportedly lost consciousness at the spot.
Later, at around 1:15 AM on January 6, GTB Hospital informed police that Mohit had succumbed to his injuries.
Following this, an FIR was registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and a detailed probe was launched.
DCP East Abhishek Dhaniya stated that the crime team and Forensic Science Laboratory officials inspected the site and collected evidence.
Based on the investigation so far, police have apprehended all six juveniles allegedly involved in the assault.
Doctors have completed the post-mortem examination, and officials are awaiting the final medical opinion.
The victim’s grandmother appealed for justice and stated that people took her grandson away and brutally beat him.
Speaking to reporters, she said, “A few people called him, took him away, and brutally beat him. We want justice. There was no fight. Even if something had happened, I have no knowledge of it. Before dying, my grandson gave a statement saying that 10-12 people had beaten him. My child will not return, but I want justice.”
Elsewhere in the locality, residents voiced concern over the increasing involvement of minors in violent incidents.
Police have assured the public that they are thoroughly investigating the case and will take action in accordance with the law.
