16 Delhi Metro Stations Shut As Security Tightens After Violence

Delhi authorities ordered the closure of 16 Metro stations on Thursday and deployed additional security personnel across the national capital after violence linked to the Jantar Mantar protest sparked fresh law and order concerns.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) suspended passenger entry and exit at several prominent stations, including Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat.

Passengers can still use interchange services at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat to switch between Metro lines.

The restrictions apply to Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh and Shivaji Stadium.

The security measures follow the violence that broke out on July 20 after thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), accompanied by students and activists, marched from Jantar Mantar to Parliament.

The demonstrators demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated examination controversies, including the alleged NEET-UG paper leak.

Students, opposition leaders and activists joined the protest to demand greater transparency and accountability in the examination system.

Delhi Police have begun a detailed investigation into the incidents of violence.

Fresh clashes erupted near Tolstoy Marg in the Connaught Place area on Wednesday night.

According to police, a group of miscreants attacked security personnel by throwing stones and bottles at around 08:30 PM.

The attack injured Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vivek Bhagat.

Following the incident, authorities strengthened security arrangements across sensitive locations in Delhi to prevent further disturbances and maintain public order.
