Security forces in India’s northeastern states continue to crack down on illegal infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border. On Friday, Assam Police arrested 16 Bangladeshi nationals and pushed six others back to Bangladesh.
BSF Hands Over Six Bangladeshi Nationals To Border Guard Bangladesh
In a goodwill gesture, the Border Security Force (BSF) of Meghalaya handed over six Bangladeshi nationals to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday.
Authorities arrested these individuals the previous day as they attempted to cross the international border in the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya. The BSF spokesman confirmed the transfer of the detainees to the BGB as part of ongoing border security cooperation between the two countries.
Arrests In Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills District
Meanwhile, in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district, eight Bangladeshis, including two women, were arrested on Friday. These individuals had illegally entered India through the Dalu area, carrying two snakes with them.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against them, while the snakes were handed over to wildlife authorities for further action.
Assam Police Detain and Push Back Six Infiltrators
On Friday, local police in Assam arrested six Bangladeshi nationals. The infiltrators, identified as Md Juman, Md Sahib, Hanupa Begum, Md Kholil, Saiful Rahman, and Rocky, were quickly pushed back across the border, as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Sarma emphasized that the crackdown on infiltration was continuing but did not specify the district where the arrests took place.
Two Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Tripura
In Tripura, the Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals at the Agartala railway station. The arrested individuals, Gyas Uddin (26) and Mainuddin (25) claimed during questioning that they intended to travel to Kolkata. Both men are residents of Chottagram, Bangladesh.
Moreover, with Republic Day celebrations approaching on Sunday, security forces have heightened vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border. The four northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Assam, which share a combined 1,880-km border with Bangladesh, remain on high alert to prevent illegal crossings and ensure the safety of the region.
As border security remains a priority for Indian authorities, the continued crackdown highlights the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its borders and preventing unauthorized infiltration.
