110 Indian Students Evacuated From Iran Under Operation Sindhu, Reach Delhi Today

As many as 110 Indian students evacuated from northern Iran will reach New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday under Operation Sindhu, India’s rescue mission for nationals stuck in the Iran-Israel conflict zone.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the evacuation in a statement on Wednesday. It said, “The Indian Embassy has evacuated 110 Indian students from northern Iran, assisting them in safely crossing into Armenia on 17 June 2025.”

The students travelled by road to Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, under the supervision of Indian missions in Iran and Armenia. They departed Yerevan on a special flight at 14:55 hrs on 18 June 2025 and will land in Delhi early on 19 June.

India prioritises safety of citizens abroad

The MEA said the evacuation forms part of the government’s broader effort to ensure the safety of Indian nationals in Iran, where conflict has escalated sharply due to the ongoing Iran-Israel war.

“India accords the highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad,” the MEA said. It added that Indian diplomats have been helping citizens move from dangerous zones in Iran to safer areas and organising their return using feasible means.

India thanks Iran and Armenia for support

The Indian government expressed its gratitude to the governments of Iran and Armenia for their help in enabling a smooth evacuation.

Indian nationals still in Iran have been asked to stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran via its emergency helpline. The MEA has also activated a 24×7 Control Room in New Delhi to assist Indians needing support.

The ongoing Operation Sindhu is expected to continue until all Indian citizens stranded in conflict-affected zones are safely brought home.
