Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the success of the Digital India initiative as it completed 11 years, describing it as a transformative programme that has reshaped governance, empowered citizens, and accelerated the country’s overall development. He said the initiative has earned India global recognition by harnessing technology and innovation to improve lives and strengthen public services.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said Digital India has become the foundation of a developed and self-reliant India. He noted that the initiative has significantly improved the lives of millions, particularly the poor and underprivileged, by making government services more transparent, efficient and accessible.
PM Modi said the widespread adoption of technology by more than a billion Indians has driven remarkable progress across sectors.
From the rapid expansion of optical fibre connectivity to the success of digital payments and Direct Benefit Transfers, the Prime Minister said technology has become a key driver of ease of living and inclusive growth. He highlighted that Digital India has fuelled innovation beyond metropolitan cities, enabling startups, entrepreneurs and innovators from villages as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities to develop solutions for national and global challenges.
According to the Prime Minister, the initiative has strengthened education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce and public service delivery while making governance more accountable and citizen-centric. He highlighted India’s advances in AI, semiconductors and quantum computing, saying they will drive growth and serve humanity.
