1,037 Police Medals Awarded On I-Day Eve, Telangana Cop Receives Top Honor

Out of the 213 Gallantry Medals, 208 were awarded to police personnel. The Jammu & Kashmir Police received the highest number of these awards with 31, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Police, each receiving 17.

On Wednesday, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced service medals for 1,037 police personnel from various central and state forces in recognition of their bravery and service, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations.

The awards include:

– President’s Medal for Gallantry (PPMG): Awarded to a Head Constable from Telangana Police.

– Medal for Gallantry (PMG): Given to 213 personnel.

– Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM): Awarded to 94 individuals.

– Medal for Meritorious Service (PM): Presented to 729 personnel.

Among the awardees, Chaduvu Yadaiah, a Head Constable with Telangana Police, received the PMG for his extraordinary bravery. On July 26, 2022, he was involved in apprehending notorious criminals Ishan Niranjan Neelamnalli and Rahul, who were engaged in chain snatching and arms dealing. During the arrest, Yadaiah was brutally attacked with a knife by the suspects, resulting in severe injuries. Despite his critical condition, he managed to hold onto the criminals until backup arrived. He was hospitalized for 17 days following the incident.

Out of the 213 Gallantry Medals, 208 were awarded to police personnel. The Jammu & Kashmir Police received the highest number of these awards with 31, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Police, each receiving 17. Chhattisgarh had 15 awardees, Madhya Pradesh 12, and Jharkhand, Punjab, and Telangana each had seven personnel honored.

Additionally, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had 52 personnel recognized, with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) contributing 14, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) 10, and the Border Security Force (BSF) six. Other awards were distributed among personnel from various states, union territories, and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

Fire service personnel also received awards, with three Gallantry Medals going to the Delhi Fire Service and one to the Jharkhand Fire Service. Uttar Pradesh Home Guard and Civil Defence personnel received one Gallantry Medal.

The President’s Medal for Gallantry and Medal for Gallantry are awarded for exceptional acts of bravery in saving lives and property or preventing crime, with due regard to the officer’s duties and risks undertaken.
