Crimes some time end an entire era in history. The idyllic peace and love image of the 1960s got over with the Sharon Tate’s murder in the Hollywood.
The fabulous actress as the crime victim from Hollywood left many questions unanswered and her murder left the truly horrific crime scene after her.
Later as the incident came to know as the Tate-LaBianca murders, were crimes which were carried out by people belonging to a cult headed by Charles Manson.
The famous Roman Polanski being the actress’ husband, later known as a disgraced film director was responsible for the horror movie “Rosemary’s Baby,” in 1968. The movie tragically pales when compared to the horrors that unfolded in Los Angeles at 10050 Cielo Drive at their residence during a fateful night on in the month of August in 1969.
The horrific murders led to Manson and four of his followers’ imprisonment. These are the culprits who carried out the killings that horrified the world. The house belonging to Tate, where the crimes transpired, does not stand any more but the history pertaining to the celebrity residents along with the tragic murder cannot soon be forgotten.
Born in 1943, Sharon Tate’s father was an Army officer which was the reason the family moved nationally in American and a little bit internationally also. Tate spent some time in Italy attending high school.
A beauty pageant Tate in her teenage years witnessed the early 1960s was off to Hollywood with a recurring role on the sitcom “The Beverly Hillbillies.” By the middle of the decade, she appeared in more prominent movie roles which include “The Valley of The Dolls” and “The Wrecking Crew,” a comedy flick starring Dean Martin in 1968.
Tate got introduced to director Roman Polanski, who gave her the main role in his film “The Fearless Vampire Killers.” It was the same year when the two got married in 1968. The year 1969 saw them becoming a major Hollywood power couple when when “Rosemary’s Baby” a Polanski film became a hit making him one of the most sought-after directors in Holly-town of American flics.
A career criminal in the 1960s, Charles Manson made his way out to the the counter-cultural epicenter of American state, California. There was something about Manson which made certain people always feel a little uneasy, but to many others, he with his magnetic persona, allowed to follow him. Among his followers were mostly young, female runaways, they say.
The Beatles song Helter Skelter gave the Manson family a name which they used as per their belief being their duty to start a race war. With Helter Skelter reference to the Family’s war made history during the decades of seventies. Living a communal lifestyle, the Family took up their most famous residence at Spahn Ranch, and the faux Old West town was used to shoot westerns.
Manson had musical aspirations and he tried to follow his musical career by hobnobbing in Hollywood. His order to his followers to kill those at 10050 Cielo Drive, has been considered related to his desire to making it in music.
As the reports tell, on the fateful night of August 9, 1969, Sharon Tate, eight-and-a-half-months pregnant, was at the house accompanied by hairdresser Jay Sebring who was her friend and former fiance. Roman Polanski was not at home since he was out of town at the time, but two of his friends, writer-photographer Wojciech Frykowski with his girlfriend, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, were also living there with Tate.
Ordering five of his followers, Manson wanted everyone in the house to be murdered and his instruction was to commit the murders as “as gruesome(ly) as possible.”
The Manson followers consisted of three men and two women, brought all of the home’s occupants into the living room. They tied Tate and Sebring and then the first one to be killed was Sebring. Frykowski and Folger tried to briefly escape, but they also were chased down and killed. Sharon Tate was also stabbed to death after Sebring, they also killed her unborn child. Fleeing from the crime scene, one of the cult members wrote the word “PIG” in the victims’ blood on the floor. This was to implicate the Black Panthers in the murders while inciting Manson’s prophesied race war.
The cult members followed the same murder style the following evening while committing another infamous LaBianca murders.
Later one of the cult members, involved in the gruesome murders was caught by the police and then every one in the crime family was arrested. Manso died in Los Angels prison who was told himself to be involved in thirty five murders.
