Telangana Junior Doctors Aborts Strike Temporarily

Leaders of Telangana Junior Doctors Association said that they will wait for the order from the government accepting their demands till Wednesday evening.

Following the conversation with the Director of Medical Education and the officials of the health department late on Tuesday night, Telangana junior doctors withdrew strike temporarily.

On Wednesday, junior physicians employed by Telangana’s government hospitals—aside from those at Osmania Hospital—temporarily cancelled their indefinite strike.

Leaders of Telangana Junior Doctors Association said that they will wait for the order from the government accepting their demands till Wednesday evening. However, If they government fails to issue the order, the association will resume the strike from Thursday.

Junior Doctors are demanding for the hostel in Osmania University and Gandhi Hospital. State government assured the association for funds to be released for the hostels.

Intrestingly, Junior doctors working in Osmania University continuing the strike on Wednesday as well. Citing that the government had not provided a firm guarantee for new facilities, they refused to call off the strike.

The introduction of college buses and road repairs at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal were assured by the administrators.

The junior physicians had been abstaining from ward work, elective procedures, and outpatient care. They were attending emergency tasks, though.

In addition, the government had pledged to uphold the demands for the creation of a green channel for prompt payment of stipends, an honorarium for senior residents in superspecialty areas, and the deployment of police officers to stop violence against physicians in hospitals.
