A district hospital in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, organised a maternal health camp under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA).
The initiative delivered medical examinations and counselling services to 40 pregnant women attending the outpatient department.
Doctors and health workers conducted comprehensive prenatal assessments.
They provided advice on maternal well-being, newborn care, balanced nutrition, and the importance of routine health monitoring during pregnancy.
The programme also included mental health guidance and awareness sessions.
During the screening, medical staff detected four high-risk pregnancies.
Doctors immediately provided specialised medical advice and prescribed medication to ensure ongoing care and regular monitoring.
Authorities also distributed helpline contacts to assist beneficiaries in emergencies or for further consultation.
The PMSMA programme operates under the direction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
It provides free, guaranteed antenatal services to pregnant women in their second and third trimesters on a fixed day each month.
Local health officials organised the Burhanpur camp under the supervision of the district Chief Medical Officer and the Civil Surgeon.
District officer Seema David explained that the campaign occurs regularly on the 9th and 25th of each month at district hospitals, community health centres, and primary health facilities.
Beneficiaries and their families appreciated the programme. They stated that regular antenatal care helps detect conditions such as anaemia early and improves maternal and infant health outcomes.
