The Press Information Bureau (PIB) warned the public that a fraudulent SMS circulating across mobile networks urges recipients to update their delivery address within 12 hours to prevent their products from being returned.
The tweet, marked with the hashtag #PIBFactCheck, emphasised that the message is completely fake and urged the public to remain cautious.
PIB Fact Check taking to X, noted, “Fake SMS Alert! Did you receive an SMS with a link urging you to update your delivery address within 12 hours to prevent your product from being returned? #PIBFactCheck Stay cautious! This message is #Fake @IndiaPostOffice does NOT send such requests for address updates. Avoid clicking on such fraudulent links! Always verify tracking details through the official India Post website: indiapost.gov.in or contact customer service.”
The official India Post account confirmed that it does not send SMS messages requesting customers to update their addresses. It also clarified that it never asks for updates via external links.
Users should treat any such messages claiming urgent action as fraudulent.
Authorities advise users to avoid clicking on suspicious links, as they can compromise personal information or lead to phishing attacks.
PIB highlighted that tracking and delivery details should only be verified through official India Post channels. Customers can check their shipment status on the official website https://indiapost.gov.in or contact customer service for assistance.
The advisory reminds users to remain vigilant. It also urges them to verify information before taking any action on messages that appear urgent or suspicious.
By following these precautions, recipients can avoid falling victim to scams while ensuring their deliveries remain secure.
