PIB Warns Public About Fake RBI Email Promoting Fraudulent Donation Scheme

The Press Information Bureau has cautioned citizens about a fraudulent email currently circulating online that falsely claims to originate from the Reserve Bank of India.

The email attempts to mislead recipients by promoting fictitious financial schemes.

According to the alert, the email alleges that recipients must pay a ‘crediting fee’ to receive funds under a so-called ‘Donation Programme 2026’. It also mentions compensation payments for lottery winnings or inheritance funds, none of which are legitimate.

The Press Information Bureau, through its #PIBFactCheck initiative, has categorically stated that the email is fake and designed as a phishing attempt. It clarified that the Reserve Bank of India has not issued any such communication and is not running any donation scheme, lottery payout, or compensation programme.

Authorities have strongly advised people to remain cautious while dealing with unsolicited messages.

Individuals should avoid clicking on suspicious links or responding to unknown emails that request personal or financial details.

The advisory also urges people to never share sensitive information such as bank details, OTPs, or identity credentials via email, SMS, or phone calls.

Citizens are encouraged to report dubious messages or suspected scams related to government departments to the Press Information Bureau for verification.

Prompt reporting can help prevent the spread of misinformation and protect others from falling victim to fraud.

With the increasing prevalence of digital communication, such phishing attempts have become more sophisticated.

The latest alert highlights the importance of staying vigilant and verifying the authenticity of any financial communication before taking action.

Government agencies continue to urge the public to rely only on official sources for information and to exercise caution when dealing with offers that appear too good to be true.
