The Press Information Bureau (PIB), through its official X handle, has issued a strong clarification regarding a misleading video spreading false claims about a government-run laptop distribution scheme.
The YouTube channel MyHelpShivam posted a video claiming that the central government is giving away free laptops. It falsely states that all students will receive laptops under a scheme called One Student One Laptop.
PIB Fact Check Debunks the Claim
In a tweet accompanied by a public advisory, PIB Fact Check categorically denied the existence of any such scheme.
“Is the government providing ‘free laptops’? Know the truth! A video thumbnail on the #YouTube channel “MyHelpShivam” claims that the central government is providing ‘free laptops’ to all students under the ‘One Student One Laptop’ scheme. Be cautious of such enticing claims.”
The tweet stated that the central government is not operating any such scheme and warned citizens to avoid falling for such enticing yet fraudulent claims.
The video, which has gained traction on social media, misuses the name of the Government of India to mislead students and parents.

Public Advisory on Viral Misinformation
PIB’s warning forms part of its ongoing campaign to combat digital misinformation. In recent years, several fraudulent websites and videos have surfaced. They falsely claim to offer government benefits, awards, or schemes in exchange for personal data.
PIB regularly alerts the public about such scams, stressing the importance of digital vigilance in today’s information age.
The government advises citizens to follow the official handles of the concerned ministries or visit government websites for genuine updates on schemes and services.
