The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has issued a strong warning to the public about an ongoing fraud related to mobile tower installations, in which a #FAKE NOC is being circulated in the name of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
The fraudulent document falsely claims that permission has been granted to install a mobile tower at the recipient’s location and seeks ₹2,500 as agreement fees.
According to the alert, unsuspecting individuals are being contacted and shown an allegedly official No Objection Certificate (NOC), which gives the impression that it has been issued by the Department of Telecommunications.
Using this document, fraudsters attempt to convince people that their property has been selected for mobile tower installation and that a small amount must be paid to formalise the agreement.
PIB Fact Check Busts The Claim
As part of its verification exercise, #PIBFactCheck has posted on X that no @DoT_India has issued such certificate. The PIB clarified that the document being circulated is fake and has no connection with the Department of Telecommunications or any authorised government process.

The fact check highlights that citizens should not rely on such certificates, messages, or phone calls without independent verification through official government sources. Any demand for money based on such documents should be treated with extreme caution.
The PIB has repeatedly emphasised that misinformation and frauds often exploit the names and logos of government departments to appear credible. In this case, the use of a fake DoT NOC is intended to mislead recipients into believing the offer is legitimate and endorsed by authorities.
