The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Friday issued a fact-check alert over a digitally manipulated video being circulated by Pakistani propaganda-linked social media handles. The video falsely shows Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi claiming that India is opposing Pakistan’s inclusion in a Gaza Peace Board.
According to PIB, the video is a deepfake created to mislead viewers and spread misinformation. The government clarified that General Dwivedi has made no such statement, and the clip being shared online has been digitally altered.

The manipulated video attempts to portray the Army Chief making remarks on India’s alleged position regarding Pakistan’s role in a Gaza Peace Board. PIB categorically rejected this claim, stating that the content is fabricated and does not reflect any statement made by General Dwivedi.
To counter the false narrative, PIB shared a link to the original, unedited video, urging people to verify the source before believing or forwarding such content.
PIB’s Advisory On Misinformation
In its advisory, PIB urged citizens to remain vigilant against deepfakes and other forms of digital misinformation, especially content falsely attributed to senior government or military officials. It reiterated the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media platforms.
The fact-checking unit also encouraged the public to report any suspicious content related to the Government of India for verification. Such content can be sent to PIB Fact Check through its official WhatsApp number or email.
The alert comes amid growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence and digital tools to create deepfake videos that aim to influence public opinion and spread false narratives.
PIB has repeatedly cautioned that misinformation campaigns pose a serious threat to public trust and national security, advising users to rely only on verified and official sources for information.
