The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has categorically rejected a misleading social media assertion circulated on 19 February 2026 by the handle @Markhor_Paki.
The post falsely alleged that militants from Kashmir had attacked an Indian Army camp in Rajouri. Authorities have confirmed that no such assault occurred.
PIB Fact Check dismantled the claim by publishing a visual montage.
Officials stamped the viral tweet with a bold ‘FAKE’ mark and juxtaposed it with the source videos to expose the distortion.
The agency clarified that the clips had no connection to any military engagement in Rajouri.
The first video features Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh addressing a tragic incident from May 2022.
He discussed a passenger bus fire in Kharmal, Katra. The blaze killed four individuals and injured 24 others.
Investigators established that an engine malfunction triggered the fire. Authorities confirmed that the episode bore no link to terrorism or armed conflict.
The second video portrays an accidental explosion that occurred on 14 November 2025 at Nowgam Police Station, near Srinagar.
The blast claimed nine lives and injured 27 personnel.
Officials stated that police were handling previously seized explosives transported from Faridabad when the detonation took place.
Multiple verified reports concluded that the explosion resulted from mishandling recovered materials. They ruled out any terror involvement.
PIB Fact Check stressed that the viral narrative deliberately stitched unrelated visuals to fabricate a false security incident.
The agency urged citizens to rely on authenticated sources before amplifying sensational claims.
It reaffirmed that misinformation threatens public trust and national stability.
Through prompt clarification, authorities underscored the importance of responsible digital conduct.
The government reiterated its commitment to combating fabricated propaganda and preserving factual accuracy in public discourse.
