Officials clarified that SBI never asks customers to download APK files or update Aadhaar details through unofficial links.
The fraudulent message has circulated widely on WhatsApp. It creates panic by warning users of immediate account suspension. Scammers use urgency as a tool to push victims into quick action without verification.

The visual highlights how scammers imitate official language and branding to appear credible and deceive unsuspecting users.
PIB Fact Check warned that downloading such APK files exposes users to malware. These malicious files may steal banking credentials, personal information, and sensitive data stored on mobile devices.
Authorities strongly advised users to avoid clicking on unknown links or installing files sent via messaging apps.
The Economic Times and Moneycontrol have reported similar fraud cases. Their reports confirm that cybercriminals continue to target Indian bank customers using fake KYC and Aadhaar update messages.
The State Bank of India has repeatedly clarified that customers should download the YONO app only from official app stores.
SBI stressed that it never communicates account-related instructions through unsolicited messages or external download links.

Authorities urged users to stay alert and rely only on verified government and banking channels for updates.
