PIB Fact Check Exposes AI Video Falsely Showing Nirmala Sitharaman Promoting Investment Scheme

PIB Fact Check has exposed an AI-generated fake video circulating on Facebook that falsely depicts Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promoting a fraudulent investment scheme promising extraordinary financial returns.

According to PIB Fact Check, the manipulated advertisement falsely claims that an investment of ₹22,000 can generate monthly returns of ₹30 lakh.

Additionally, the fabricated video displays misleading overlays promising earnings of ‘₹100,000 every day’, ‘guaranteed’ returns and ‘million’ profits to lure unsuspecting users.

The official fact-check video clearly carries a prominent ‘DIGITALLY ALTERED’ stamp to demonstrate that fraudsters manipulated the content using artificial intelligence.

Officials confirmed that neither the Finance Minister nor the Government of India has endorsed or promoted any such investment scheme.

PIB Fact Check urged citizens to remain vigilant against AI-generated financial scams circulating on social media platforms. It advised users not to trust advertisements promising unrealistic or guaranteed returns, as such claims often form part of online investment fraud.

The agency encouraged people to verify all financial offers only through official government platforms before investing money. It also urged the public to report misleading content and suspicious advertisements to PIB Fact Check through its official WhatsApp number or email for prompt verification.

Officials reiterated that cybercriminals increasingly misuse artificial intelligence and deepfake technology to impersonate public figures and government authorities.

Citizens should carefully verify every investment-related claim before taking any financial decision.

The government continues to advise the public to rely exclusively on authorised government sources for authentic information and remain alert against digital fraud designed to deceive investors.
