PIB Fact Check Exposes AI-Generated Video Falsely Attributing Remarks To Govt Official

India’s official fact-checking unit has exposed a fabricated video that falsely attributes a controversial statement to a senior government official.

The misleading clip circulated widely on social media and attempted to provoke diplomatic tensions.

The debunking came from the Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking division, widely known as PIB Fact Check.

Authorities confirmed that the video used artificial intelligence tools to distort remarks allegedly made by a Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The manipulated footage claimed that India planned to impose ten-year prison sentences on individuals accused of promoting Iranian propaganda against its ally Israel.

The fake narrative also alleged arrests linked to fabricated reports of a United States school attack targeting Iranian girls.

Officials clarified that the claims are entirely false. The original video came from a legitimate government press briefing.

Malicious actors, however, altered the clip through AI-based voice dubbing and lip-synchronisation.

Side-by-side comparisons shared by PIB Fact Check reveal clear inconsistencies. The altered version shows unnatural mouth movements.

Audio timing also fails to match the speaker’s expressions. These discrepancies confirm deliberate digital manipulation.

Investigators note that the doctored content follows a recurring pattern of hostile online propaganda.

Analysts link such activity to coordinated misinformation networks operating from Pakistan. These campaigns frequently attempt to misrepresent India’s diplomatic posture.

Experts say the disinformation specifically targets India’s strategic engagement with Israel while exploiting regional sensitivities involving Iran.

Authorities urge citizens to verify viral claims through trusted official platforms.

PIB emphasised that public vigilance and source verification remain essential to counter synthetic media and organised digital propaganda.
