The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has debunked an AI-generated deepfake video that falsely attributes misleading remarks to Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma regarding Operation Sindoor and Indian military personnel.
According to PIB Fact Check, the fabricated video falsely claims that five aviators involved in Operation Sindoor are missing from official training records.
Authorities clarified that the allegation is entirely baseless and forms part of a coordinated misinformation campaign.
Officials stated that manipulators created the video by altering an original ANI recording featuring Lieutenant General Sharma during a graduation ceremony at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik.
The authentic footage contained no references to missing pilots, aircraft losses, or operational concerns.
The altered version inserted fabricated statements about absent aviators and specific aircraft platforms, including Rafale and Su-30 fighter jets.
PIB Fact Check confirmed that these remarks never appeared in the original address.

Authorities said certain Pakistani propaganda-linked social media accounts are circulating the manipulated content to create a false narrative surrounding the outcomes of Operation Sindoor.
The operation followed India’s 2025 strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.
PIB Fact Check urged citizens to verify military-related claims through official sources before sharing content online.
The agency also provided access to the genuine, unedited footage to demonstrate how the deepfake had distorted the original speech.
Officials warned that advances in artificial intelligence have increased the sophistication of misinformation campaigns, making fabricated videos appear increasingly convincing. They stressed the importance of digital vigilance and responsible social media usage.
The fact-checking unit encouraged users to report suspicious content and refrain from amplifying unverified material.
Authorities reiterated that false narratives targeting national security issues can mislead the public and undermine trust in authentic information.
PIB Fact Check reaffirmed its commitment to identifying manipulated content and countering disinformation through timely verification and public awareness initiatives.
