PIB Fact Check: Claim About SBI YONO App Being Blocked Without Aadhaar Update Is False

A misleading message circulating on social media falsely claims that users of the SBI YONO application must download and install an APK file to update their Aadhaar details or the app will block their access.

The government’s official fact-checking unit, Press Information Bureau Fact Check, has categorically dismissed the claim as untrue. It clarified that it has not issued any such directive.

The viral message, circulated in the name of the State Bank of India, urges customers to download an external APK file to complete an Aadhaar update.

Officials have warned that such files can compromise personal and financial data.

Authorities stressed that the bank does not request customers to download APK files or share sensitive details such as Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, passwords or banking credentials through unofficial links. Users have been advised to rely only on verified communication channels.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

PIB Fact Check has labelled the message as fake and has urged citizens to exercise caution while dealing with unsolicited links and downloads. Cyber fraudsters frequently impersonate trusted institutions to deceive individuals and gain access to confidential information.

Authorities also strongly advise customers not to download unknown applications or respond to suspicious messages that seek personal, banking or Aadhaar details.

The State Bank of India has encouraged users to report phishing attempts and dubious communications to its dedicated email address for prompt action.

Reporting such incidents can help prevent financial fraud and protect other customers from falling victim to similar scams.

Authorities reiterated that safeguarding personal data remains essential in the digital age and advised users to verify information through official sources before taking any action.
