False PAN update warning circulating
The misleading message has been circulating via SMS and social media. It warns account holders that failing to link their PAN card within 24 hours will lead to account suspension.
However, India Post and IPPB have issued no such directive. Officials clarified that such alerts are commonly used by cybercriminals to steal sensitive data.
Authorities urged citizens to remain cautious and verify information before acting on such messages.
The PIB stressed the importance of not clicking on suspicious links or sharing OTPs, account details, or identification numbers with strangers.
India Post Payments Bank has previously cautioned users about phishing attempts and fake customer care numbers circulating online. The bank consistently reminds customers to rely only on official communication channels for updates.
This clarification comes amid rising incidents of online fraud. Citizens are encouraged to report fake messages to cybercrime portals and stay updated through trusted government handles.
