PIB Debunks Circulating India Post SMS Scam; Warns Public

Citizens across India have reported receiving SMS messages purporting to be from India Post, instructing recipients to update their address details.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has officially clarified that these messages are fraudulent.

Authorities emphasised that the official India Post Office never requests address updates or other personal information via SMS. Any such communication is fake and intended to mislead recipients.

These messages often include links that could compromise personal data if clicked.

PIB warned citizens not to interact with such dubious links under any circumstances, as they may be phishing attempts designed to steal sensitive information.

The fact check serves as a reminder for citizens to exercise caution online and verify messages before responding.

Authorities advise recipients to ignore suspicious SMS notifications and report potential scams to the appropriate agencies.

This alert highlights the need for citizens to practise digital vigilance and raise public awareness to prevent cybercrime.

Citizens should stay informed, verify sources, and avoid sharing personal details through unverified channels.

The PIB emphasised that India Post, like other government agencies, does not request sensitive personal information via SMS.

Staying alert and cautious online is crucial to safeguarding oneself against phishing attacks and online fraud.

By adhering to these guidelines, citizens can protect themselves and their data from cybercriminals exploiting the name of trusted organisations.

Public awareness and careful online behaviour remain the most effective tools in countering such fraudulent schemes.
