Pakistani Handles Spread False Claim Of Shooting Down Indian UAV After PoK Strikes

Following India’s largest cross-border operation targeting terror hubs in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan, a wave of misinformation has emerged, including false claims about an Indian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).

Pakistani social media handles are now circulating a fresh false claim—that the Pakistan Army intercepted and shot down the UAV in the Gujranwala region.

This includes misleading content pushed by influencers, media outlets, and official Pakistani social media channels.

The claim surfaced a day after India’s strikes using advanced weapons systems, including drones, missiles, and guided bombs aimed at neutralising terror infrastructure.

India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB), the primary agency for official communication, fact-checked the claim and labelled it as completely untrue.

According to the PIB, the image used to support the drone claim actually comes from the Ukraine-Russia conflict in 2022.

The bureau also posted the original source of the image for public verification.

Earlier in the day, PIB addressed another fabricated narrative spread by Pakistani media, which alleged that Pakistan had retaliated against India by striking a military base in Amritsar.

A video of a blaze supported the claim, but PIB quickly clarified that the footage showed a wildfire from 2024, unrelated to any military activity.

“Pakistan-based handles are spreading old videos falsely alleging strikes on a military base in Amritsar. The video being shared is from a wildfire from 2024,” PIB stated, urging citizens to trust only official Indian government sources for reliable information.

Pakistani platforms have manipulated several visuals and videos, sourcing them from unrelated past incidents.

In some cases, political figures have also shared inaccurate content, claiming false victories in counterattacks.

Despite the disinformation campaign, India has emphasised that its strikes were deliberate, limited in scope, and not intended to escalate tensions.
