The Ministry of External Affairs FactCheck unit has rejected a viral social media claim that alleged the arrest of an Indian engineer in Bahrain for spying activities linked to Mossad.
The misleading post, circulated by the social media account @MENAUnleashed, asserted that Bahraini authorities had detained the individual and urged Gulf nations to expel Indian nationals.
Officials clarified that the narrative is fabricated and lacks credible verification.
Authorities stressed that no reputable international or regional media organisations have reported such an incident as of March 10, 2026.
The fact-check team also noted that many versions of the viral message include images generated through artificial intelligence, further indicating manipulation designed to amplify misinformation.

Investigators said several accounts that previously shared anti-India narratives helped circulate the misleading claim.
Analysts believe the coordinated spread attempted to create unnecessary tension regarding the Indian community living in Gulf countries.
Public responses on social media also reflected frustration about the pace of countermeasures against accounts that first shared the misleading content.
Some users specifically pointed to accounts such as @amockx, arguing that delayed action allows false narratives to gain significant visibility before official clarification emerges.
The MEA FactCheck unit reiterated that users should verify information through credible sources before sharing such claims online.
Officials emphasised that misinformation campaigns can damage diplomatic relations and create unwarranted panic among overseas communities.
