The government on Monday firmly rejected viral social media claims alleging a militant attack on the Indian Army in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials labelled the reports as completely false and clarified that no Indian security personnel were injured or killed.
Authorities stated that security forces instead conducted a successful counter-infiltration operation in the Uri sector of Baramulla.
During the operation, troops neutralised one terrorist without any casualties among Indian personnel.
According to official information regarding events on March 15, alert soldiers thwarted an infiltration attempt in the Buchhar area.
Security forces also recovered weapons and ammunition during the operation.
Officials emphasised that these details match earlier official statements and contradict narratives circulating from certain pro-Pakistani and anti-government social media accounts.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) also addressed the misleading claims. It shared screenshots of social media posts and television visuals spreading the false narrative online.
PIB stated that several pro-Pakistani accounts alleged militants attacked the Indian Army in Baramulla, injuring 11 soldiers and causing one fatality. The agency clarified that the claim was entirely fabricated.
Officials said security forces launched the joint operation during the intervening night of March 14–15. The move followed specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration attempt in the area.
The Indian Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps later provided operational details on the social media platform X.

Troops noticed suspicious movement inside dense vegetation and set up an ambush.
When challenged, the terrorist opened indiscriminate fire. Soldiers responded immediately and eliminated the intruder.
During the encounter, forces recovered war-like stores from the site, including an AK rifle, pistols and a significant quantity of ammunition.
Authorities also advised citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious online content relating to the Central Government.
