Fake Video Misuses Nirmala Sitharaman’s Image To Promote Investment Scam

A video circulating widely on social media falsely portrays Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing an investment platform. The clip claims that an initial investment of ₹22,000 could yield returns of ₹5.5 lakh within a week, raising serious concerns about online financial scams.

Authorities have confirmed that the video is fabricated and does not reflect any real statement or endorsement by the Finance Minister.

The Press Information Bureau, under its fact-checking initiative, has categorically labelled the video as false and AI-generated. Officials clarified that neither the Finance Minister nor the Government of India has endorsed any such investment scheme or platform.

The use of advanced technology to manipulate visuals and audio has made such scams increasingly convincing, making it harder for people to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent content.

Rising Threat of AI-Driven Misinformation

Experts also warn that AI-generated videos are becoming a common tool for cybercriminals to exploit public trust. By impersonating well-known figures, scammers attempt to lure individuals into fraudulent schemes with promises of unrealistic returns.

Such content often spreads rapidly across social media platforms, increasing the risk of financial loss for unsuspecting users.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify claims through official government sources before taking any action. People are strongly advised to avoid clicking on suspicious links or sharing personal and financial information online.

Simple precautions, such as cross-checking announcements and relying on trusted platforms, can help prevent falling victim to such scams.

Citizens are encouraged to actively report misleading or manipulated content to relevant authorities. Prompt reporting can help limit the spread of misinformation and protect others from potential fraud.

With digital scams on the rise, awareness and caution remain the most effective tools in safeguarding personal and also financial security.
