Fake PM Mudra Loan Letter Exposed; Government Warns Public

Authorities debunk a fake PM Mudra Yojana loan letter promising ₹7 lakh, warning the public of scams exploiting government schemes.

Fake PM Mudra Loan Letter Exposed: Government Warns Public

The government has exposed a fabricated loan approval letter falsely claiming that individuals could receive ₹7 lakh under the PM Mudra Yojana for an upfront payment of ₹860. The document featured official-looking stamps and detailed formatting, misleading recipients into believing it was authentic.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check clarified that the letter is entirely fraudulent. It warned citizens not to fall for such schemes, emphasising that the PM Mudra Yojana does not require any upfront payment for loan disbursal.

The scam takes advantage of the scheme’s popularity. Since its launch in 2015, the PM Mudra Yojana has provided over ₹45 lakh crore in loans to approximately 52 crore beneficiaries.

The scheme’s success and reach make it an attractive target for fraudsters aiming to exploit unsuspecting individuals.

Officials explained that Mudra functions solely as a refinancing body. It provides funds to banks and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) for onward lending to micro and small entrepreneurs.

Mudra does not lend directly to individuals. This is clearly outlined in the government guidelines on myscheme.gov.in, confirming that any direct loan claim by Mudra is false.

Scam Targets Beneficiaries

Authorities urged beneficiaries to remain vigilant. They should only approach registered banks or financial institutions for PM Mudra Yojana loans.

The government also recommended checking the official website and verified channels before making any payments or sharing personal information.

Scams like these often employ psychological tactics, such as urgency or promises of large sums, to manipulate victims. The fraudulent letter’s use of stamps, logos, and official formatting was designed to create trust and pressure recipients into paying.

The government highlighted that awareness is the most effective defence against such fraud. Citizens should report suspicious messages, emails, or letters to the relevant authorities immediately.

Public vigilance ensures the scheme remains a tool for genuine entrepreneurs rather than a target for fraudsters.

In summary, the fake PM Mudra Yojana loan letter promising ₹7 lakh for an ₹860 payment is a scam. Mudra only finances banks and NBFCs, not individuals.

The government advises beneficiaries to follow official channels, verify information, and remain alert to protect themselves from fraud.

This alert underscores the importance of vigilance in protecting citizens and maintaining the integrity of government schemes.
