PIB Fact Check has flagged a deepfake video falsely showing Nirmala Sitharaman promoting an investment scheme promising huge returns.

Fake Nirmala Sitharaman Investment Ad Debunked By PIB Fact Check

PIB Fact Check has exposed a fraudulent Facebook advertisement that uses an AI-generated video to falsely depict Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing an investment platform promising extraordinary returns.

The misleading advertisement claims that an investment of ₹22,000 can generate daily earnings of ₹80,000 and monthly returns of ₹24 lakh.

Authorities have categorically dismissed these claims as false and deceptive.

According to PIB Fact Check, fraudsters manipulated footage of the Finance Minister using advanced artificial intelligence tools.

The fabricated video combines altered visuals with promotional graphics to create the impression of official government approval.

The advertisement also displays inflated profit figures and logos of prominent banking institutions.

These elements attempt to establish credibility and persuade viewers to invest money in the fraudulent scheme.

The government clarified that neither the Finance Minister nor any official authority has endorsed the platform featured in the advertisement.

PIB Fact Check urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid relying on social media promotions that promise unrealistic financial gains.

Officials warned that cybercriminals increasingly exploit deepfake technology and fabricated celebrity endorsements to target unsuspecting investors.

By using recognisable public figures, fraudsters seek to gain trust and encourage individuals to share money or personal information.

The advisory emphasised that investment decisions should be based on verified information obtained through authorised and official sources.

Citizens should carefully examine claims that guarantee exceptionally high returns, as such promises often indicate fraudulent activity.

PIB Fact Check advised the public to verify financial advertisements through official government channels before making investments.

Authorities also encouraged users to report suspicious content and remain vigilant against evolving digital scams.

The latest warning highlights growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence in financial fraud. It also underscores the importance of digital awareness and due diligence in protecting personal finances from increasingly sophisticated online deception.
