Fact Check: Govt Refutes Fake Circular On National Qualifying Exam For Final Year MBBS Students

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Tuesday issued a fact-check debunking a fabricated circular circulating in the name of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The misleading document falsely claimed the rollout of the National Exit Test (NExT) for final-year MBBS students.

PIB shared an image of the forged letter and cautioned the public against believing such unauthorised claims. It clearly stated that the document is fake and not issued by the NMC.

The counterfeit letter, dated April 1, carried the subject ‘Implementation of National Exit Test (NExT) for MBBS Students’.

It was addressed to deans and principals of medical institutions offering MBBS courses. The document falsely suggested that NExT would be implemented in phases.

It further claimed that the examination would apply to students admitted from the 2022 batch onwards. T

he circular imitated the official NMC letterhead and mentioned its Dwarka office in West Delhi to appear credible.

The forged communication asserted that NExT would act as a final-year MBBS qualifying examination.

It also claimed it would serve as a licentiate test for medical practice in India. Additionally, it misleadingly stated that NExT would replace NEET-PG as a unified entrance test for postgraduate courses.

The letter outlined a two-step process, including a theory examination and a clinical assessment after internship. It also advised colleges to adjust academic structures accordingly.

PIB categorically dismissed these assertions and urged stakeholders to rely only on official sources.
