Pakistani and Pakistan-supported social media channels have recently spread misleading videos under the guise of Operation Sindoor.
These AI-generated clips allegedly depict Indian Army chiefs and other military officials admitting to retreats or the loss of aircraft, claims that have no verified basis.
India’s official fact-check unit, Press Information Bureau (PIB), has raised an alarm over these doctored videos. The department asserts that the content is maliciously intended to mislead the public.
During Operation Sindoor, numerous edited videos, misattributed statements, and false narratives were shared widely, many of them traced back to social media accounts operating from outside India.
Authorities urge people not to forward such content if it seems suspicious or sensational. Look out for signs like unnatural video edits, voices or faces that don’t match known public appearances or conduct, lack of credible sources or official confirmation.
If in doubt, cross-verify before sharing.
The government has asked citizens to send possibly fake videos or messages to @PIBFactCheck. Use the following channels:
Taking to social media platform X, PIB Fact Check stated, “Pakistani and Pakistan-supported social media channels are spreading #AI generated #FakeNews in reference to #OperationSindoor. Such fake #AI videos of Indian Army chiefs and military officials are being shared, in which they appear to be discussing losses like India retreating and destruction of aircraft during #OperationSindoor. Do not forward such videos that are being created with the malicious intent to mislead the general public. Send suspicious content to @PIBFactCheck: WhatsApp – 8799711259 factcheck@pib.gov.in”
According to PIB, more than 1,400 URLs spreading anti-India propaganda were blocked.
Inter-ministerial bodies and media coordination teams also released authentic information, including satellite imagery and verified reports of operations.
