Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top aide, Nikolai Patrushev, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Patrushev, who also serves as Chairman of Russia’s Maritime Board, discussed multiple aspects of bilateral cooperation.
The discussions focused on preparations for the India-Russia Summit, scheduled for early December during Putin’s upcoming visit to India.
The Russian Embassy in India shared a statement on Telegram, saying, “Patrushev was received by PM Modi. The parties discussed issues of Russian-Indian cooperation, particularly in the maritime sector. Both sides emphasised deepening interaction to strengthen maritime capabilities. Preparations for the Russia-India Summit were also discussed.”
Russia plans to send President Putin to India in December for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. He last visited the country in December 2021 for the 21st edition of the summit.
Earlier on Tuesday, Patrushev paid tribute to the Indian Armed Forces at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
He later visited the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, which showcases India’s history since independence in 1947, and signed the guest book.
On Monday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow. They discussed the bilateral and international agenda, focusing on the upcoming annual India-Russia Summit.
Their talks also marked the 25th anniversary of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.
The two foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to building a just, multipolar world order and enhancing global security.
They agreed to continue coordinating on cooperation in major multilateral forums, including the UN, SCO, BRICS, and G20.
Last month, PM Modi spoke with Putin over the phone. He reviewed progress in the bilateral agenda and conveyed birthday greetings.
PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to strategic cooperation and expressed eagerness to host the Russian leader in December.
The two leaders also met in September on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin.
They discussed regional and global developments, including Ukraine, and reiterated their support for deepening bilateral ties.
During their meeting, PM Modi highlighted that 1.40 crore Indians are eagerly awaiting Putin’s arrival. “This shows the depth of our special and privileged strategic partnership,” he said.
