On Wednesday, actor Randeep Hooda received the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his movie “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” at a ceremony held at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Natyagrih in Mumbai.

On being honoured with the award, he said, “It is very special for me that I have been honoured with so many great people. On the biopic of Savarkar ji, the Mangeshkar family and Dina Nath ji, who was his friend, it was a matter of great pride and happiness for me to receive this honour from the family who knew him, recognized him and respected him a lot and it was very special.”

“Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” stands as a cinematic tribute to one of India’s most influential and controversial figures in the struggle for independence, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, affectionately known as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. Directed by actor Randeep Hooda, who also steps into the role of Savarkar, the film transcends the boundaries of a conventional biopic, offering an epic and audacious retelling of India’s armed revolution for freedom.

Backed by Zee Studios, Anand Pandit, Sandeep Singh, Randeep Hooda, and Yogesh Rahar, with co-production support from Roopa Pandit, Sam Khan, Anwar Ali, and Panchali Chakraborty, “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” boasts a formidable ensemble cast featuring Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande, and Amit Sial. Released on March 22 in both Hindi and Marathi languages, the film captivates audiences with its portrayal of Savarkar’s journey and the tumultuous era of India’s struggle for independence.

Meanwhile, in a separate accolade within the same industry, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan received the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award at a ceremony held in Mumbai. The event, which recognized Bachchan’s unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema, was graced by the presence of singer Usha Mangeshkar, the esteemed third eldest sibling of the Mangeshkar family, who bestowed the award upon Bachchan amidst heartfelt applause and admiration.

The dual celebration of cinematic excellence and cultural recognition underscores the profound impact of individuals like Savarkar and Bachchan on India’s artistic and historical landscape. As their legacies continue to inspire generations, “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” and the Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award serve as poignant reminders of the enduring spirit and talent that shape the nation’s narrative.
