On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, the makers of the upcoming film ‘Ramayana’ unveiled the look of Lord Rama, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor. The actor described the experience as deeply humbling, highlighting the rare purity associated with the character.
Reflecting on the role, Ranbir said, “I don’t think I’m here to represent Rama. I’m here to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity to him that is very rare, and trying to understand and imbibe that has been a deeply humbling experience.”
The teaser marks a significant moment for audiences worldwide, bringing renewed focus to a story that has endured for over 5,000 years.
Namit Malhotra is producing and Nitesh Tiwari is directing Ramayana, which they are developing as a two-part cinematic franchise.
Director Nitesh Tiwari said, “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right.”
“Rama’s journey is deeply human and that is what we have tried to stay true to,” he further added.
The film features an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi, Yash, Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Lara Dutta and Amitabh Bachchan.
The story of Ramayana, which has over 300 versions across cultures globally, continues to resonate due to its timeless themes of duty, sacrifice, and moral clarity.
Producer Namit Malhotra said, “The power of Rama’s story is not in what he conquers, but in what he lets go of. He represents a standard that is not easy, not convenient, but necessary.”
“He chooses duty over desire, truth over comfort, and sacrifice over self. That is why his story has endured for thousands of years, and why it continues to matter today,” the Producer noted.
Global Collaboration on Music and Action
The film brings together music composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, while action sequences are being choreographed by Hollywood stunt directors Terry Notary and Guy Norris.
The makers are filming Ramayana for IMAX and will release it globally in two parts during Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027.
