In An Age Of Viral Hits, Manoj Bhawuk Is Bringing Meaning Back To Bhojpuri Music

At a time when Bhojpuri cinema is often criticised for content lacking cultural depth, lyricist Manoj Bhawuk continues to champion meaningful storytelling through his songs. His lyrics reflect emotions, traditions, and human values, helping them resonate deeply with audiences.

In the recently released film ‘Garib Beti Ke Amir Sasural’, Bhawuk has penned two notable tracks, including the title song and a romantic melody.

Unlike conventional love songs, the romantic number highlights the trust, devotion, and emotional bond shared between husband and wife, giving it a unique appeal among listeners.

The title track has also attracted attention for its emotional portrayal of a young woman facing hardship and neglect after marriage into a wealthy household. Its powerful lyrics capture her pain and struggle, striking a chord with audiences across generations.

Actress Richa Dixit features in the songs, while acclaimed music director Om Jha has elevated them with his soulful compositions.

Producers Sandeep Singh and Rama Prasad have backed the film, and director Ajay Kumar Jha has helmed the project.

Many listeners believe these songs revive memories of Bhojpuri cinema’s golden era, when music reflected society, culture, and human emotions rather than serving solely as entertainment.

Recognition and Awards

Manoj Bhawuk earlier earned widespread appreciation for his songs in the 2025 film ‘Aapan Kahaye Wala Ke Ba’ and received the Best Lyricist Award for his work in ‘Dulhiniya Naach Nachawe’.

Known for his simple yet impactful style, Manoj Bhawuk remains one of the most respected lyricists in the Bhojpuri film industry.

Before establishing himself as a writer and lyricist, Manoj Bhawuk worked as an engineer in London and several African countries for nearly a decade. He later built a successful career in literature, journalism, and songwriting. He is also the author of several acclaimed books, including ‘Bhojpuri Cinema Ke Sansar’, and has received numerous national and international honours from organisations such as Filmfare, Femina, Delhi Press, and Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad.
