Gaten Matarazzo has shed light on the friendships that have remained strong behind the scenes of Stranger Things, revealing which cast members he speaks to most frequently.
The actor discussed his bond with his co-stars during a recent conversation highlighted by People magazine.
Matarazzo said he regularly texts Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin, describing their lively exchanges filled with jokes, memes and voice notes.
“I’m messaging Finny and Caleb all the time,” he said, adding that the trio often keep each other entertained with light-hearted updates.
Having been part of the Netflix phenomenon since 2015, Matarazzo also reminisced about the period when he shared a home with Wolfhard while filming the show’s fifth season.
Speaking on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s on Me podcast, he likened their cohabitation to a university lifestyle, complete with the relatable struggle of keeping their flat tidy.
He admitted that both actors shared similar habits when it came to housekeeping.
“We matched each other’s energy,” he said, recalling moments when they would look around their apartment after months and realise how messy it had become. Neither imposed strict standards, he added, often laughing things off with a ‘We’ll sort it later’ attitude.
Matarazzo also spoke about the emotional table read for the show’s last instalment, which premiered on Netflix on November 26.
The first read-through took place in December 2023, a moment he remembers as particularly exciting for the entire cast.
He explained that the scripts were shared gradually, “We read the first few episodes together, and the rest came in over time.”
The cast’s enthusiasm, he said, was evident as they prepared to bring the long-running series to a close.
