Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3 has made a strong start at the box office, drawing large audiences since its theatrical release on October 2.
The thriller has collected Rs 115.50 crore net in India in its first two days, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film opened with Rs 62 crore net on day one, giving Ajay Devgn the biggest opening of his career. It followed that with around Rs 53 crore net on the second day, taking its domestic gross collection to Rs 138.65 crore.
The film has performed strongly overseas as well.
Drishyam 3 earned around Rs 20 crore internationally on its second day, taking its overseas total to approximately Rs 38.50 crore. Its worldwide gross has now crossed Rs 177 crore.
The strong opening has placed Drishyam 3 as the second-biggest opener of the year so far, behind Dhurandhar 2.
Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, while Tabu and Shriya Saran reprise their roles. Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrinal Jadhav and Kamlesh Sawant are among the returning cast members. Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj have joined the latest instalment in new roles.
Abhishek Pathak has directed the film and co-written the story with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parvez Sheikh.
Unlike the first two Hindi films, the latest instalment does not follow the storyline of the Malayalam series.
The makers have developed an original narrative that takes Vijay Salgaonkar’s story in a new direction and brings the franchise towards its conclusion.
