In a landmark confluence of cinematic stardom and constitutional responsibility, the officiating Chairman of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), Professor (Dr) Shahid Akhter, held a high-impact meeting with Bollywood actor and humanitarian Sonu Sood in Mumbai on Monday.
Described by attendees as a ‘fantastic meeting’, the discussion focused on leveraging Sood’s mass outreach to expand educational rights and access for marginalised communities across the country.
Professor (Dr) Shahid Akhter has been at the forefront of significant reforms.
Having recently led a high-level conclave at the Sahyadri State Guest House to strengthen Article 30(1), which grants minorities the right to establish educational institutions, Akhter brought the momentum of the commission’s recent policy push to the discussion. He further expressed gratitude for Sonu Sood’s ‘valuable insights’ and time, noting that the actor’s grassroots experience is vital to the NCMEI’s mission of achieving Viksit Bharat 2047.
Sonu Sood, who became widely recognised for his humanitarian efforts during the pandemic, has consistently prioritised education through his foundation.
From launching the ‘Shikshadaan’ initiative in Dewas to supporting civil services aspirants under ‘SAMBHAVAM’, he has impacted numerous lives.
Sonu Sood’s belief that ‘education is the most powerful tool for change’ aligns with the NCMEI’s vision to streamline minority status certificates and resolve affiliation disputes.
Dr Khalid Shaikh, Director of Mumbai’s Sai Hospital and a prominent medical professional, also attended the meeting. His presence underscored a holistic approach, linking health and education as key pillars of minority welfare.
As the NCMEI prepares to roll out its digital platform for institutional registration, the collaboration signals a new phase where policy and philanthropy converge, aiming to ensure that no child is left behind in India’s growth story.
