Actress Bhumi Pednekar has joined the cast of The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, where she will portray Belawadi Mallamma, the legendary warrior queen from Karnataka celebrated for her courage and resilience.
Expressing her excitement, Bhumi said she felt honoured to be part of what she described as the first large-scale cinematic portrayal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life and legacy. She added that bringing Belawadi Mallamma’s story to the big screen was both a privilege and a responsibility.
The actress revealed that director Sandeep Singh’s narration immediately convinced her to accept the role. She also credited co-star Rishab Shetty’s work in Kantara as one of the reasons she wanted to be part of the project.
Calling the character unlike anything she has played before, Bhumi thanked the filmmakers for placing their faith in her.
Directed and produced by Sandeep Singh, The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being mounted as a two-part historical epic.
Rishi Virmani has written the screenplay, while Amit Trivedi will compose the music and National Award-winning lyricist Prasoon Joshi has penned the songs.
The film features Rishab Shetty in the lead alongside Arjun Rampal and Vivek Oberoi in pivotal roles.
The makers have also assembled an international action team comprising Mark Henson, Vlad Rimburg and Craig Macrae.
Known for their work on acclaimed global productions, the trio will choreograph the film’s large-scale battle sequences as the makers aim to deliver a grand cinematic spectacle.
