Ariana Grande Reflects On Relentless Career Pace, Says Balance Is Her New Priority

Singer and actor Ariana Grande has admitted that stepping away from constant work does not come naturally to her, even as she recognises the benefits of slowing down after more than a decade of sustained success.

Speaking in a recent interview, Grande said she has rarely taken extended breaks throughout her career, describing the past 15 years as largely non-stop. However, she acknowledged that pausing her music career while filming Wicked proved personally and creatively valuable.

“I’m not used to taking breaks,” Grande said, adding that time away from music during filming allowed her to grow in unexpected ways.

Reflecting on her journey, she noted that constant momentum has defined much of her professional life since her rise to fame.

Looking ahead, Grande said she hopes the next phase of her career will look markedly different. Rather than maintaining the same intensity, she aims to prioritise balance in both her personal and professional life.

“Balance is the goal for the next 15 years,” she explained, suggesting that future projects will allow more space for reflection and well-being. She added that she does not expect the coming years to mirror the pace of her earlier career.

Immersing Herself in Wicked

Grande plays Glinda in the two-part Wicked film adaptation and said she fully immersed herself in understanding the character.

She spent time analysing Glinda’s emotional background, exploring how relationships and hidden insecurities shaped her personality.

She explained that acting often blurs the line between performance and vulnerability, as artists alternate between adopting characters and revealing personal truths. According to Grande, audiences sometimes struggle to distinguish between the two.

Grande also spoke warmly about forming a close bond with co-star Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba. Despite not auditioning together, the pair developed a strong sense of trust and support during filming.

She described the experience as deeply fulfilling, crediting their mutual care and commitment for creating a meaningful on-screen partnership.

Grande said the project remains the most gratifying work of her career and one she would gladly repeat.
