India Energy Week 2026 Begins; PM Modi Highlights India-EU Trade Synergy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday virtually inaugurated the fourth edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026, calling it a rapidly emerging global platform for dialogue and action on energy and sustainability.

Addressing delegates gathered in South Goa, he welcomed participants from across the world and said India has become a ‘land of immense opportunities’ for the global energy sector.

During his address, the Prime Minister announced a significant development in India’s external trade, referring to the near completion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement as the ‘Mother of all deals’.

He described the pact as an excellent example of synergy between two of the world’s largest economies, together accounting for nearly 25 per cent of global GDP and about one-third of global trade.

PM Modi said the agreement would bring major benefits to India’s 140 crore citizens as well as millions in Europe, while strengthening democracy, the rule of law, trade and global supply chains.

He added that the FTA would complement agreements with the UK and EFTA countries, boosting manufacturing, services and investor confidence.

Highlighting India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, the Prime Minister said rising energy demand presents excellent opportunities for global partners.

India ranks among the world’s top five petroleum exporters, supplying over 150 countries, and is targeting $100 billion in oil and gas investment by the end of the decade.

The Prime Minister highlighted reforms across the energy value chain and said India will raise its refining capacity beyond 300 million tonnes.

The three-day IEW 2026 conclave aims to boost energy security, investment and decarbonisation, and is expected to draw over 75,000 professionals from more than 120 countries.
