Embraer–Adani Alliance To Build Indigenous Regional Aircraft Framework In India

In a significant move for India’s aviation sector, global aerospace company Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on building a comprehensive regional transport aircraft (RTA) ecosystem in the country.

The collaboration will explore opportunities across aircraft production, supply chains, maintenance services and pilot training.

As part of the proposed roadmap, the partners plan to set up an aircraft assembly facility in India, followed by a gradual increase in local content. The initiative aligns closely with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission and the UDAN scheme, which aims to strengthen air connectivity in smaller towns and regional centres.

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said, “India is a pivotal market for Embraer, and this partnership combines our aerospace expertise with Adani’s strong industrial capabilities and commitment to indigenisation.”

“We will evaluate the most viable, advanced and efficient solutions in support of India’s RTA ambitions, and their potential for implementation”, Arjan Meijer added.

Under the proposed collaboration, Embraer’s technical and manufacturing capabilities will complement Adani Group’s presence across the aviation value chain, including airports, aerospace production, MRO facilities and pilot training infrastructure.

Enhancing Connectivity and Employment

Jeet Adani, Director at Adani Defence & Aerospace, highlighted, “Regional aviation is the backbone of economic expansion. With initiatives like UDAN transforming air connectivity across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, the need for an indigenous regional aviation ecosystem has become critical.”

Embraer already maintains a strong presence in India, meanwhile operating nearly 50 aircraft of various models across commercial, defence and business aviation segments.

The planned ecosystem will meet domestic aviation needs while generating significant employment across engineering, manufacturing, logistics and allied services.

Meanwhile, Adani Defence & Aerospace stands as India’s largest integrated private-sector defence and aerospace company, with operations spanning aircraft, unmanned platforms, avionics, weapon systems and sustainment, and is further supported by the country’s largest MRO network along with a rapidly expanding pilot training platform.
