Amitabh Bachchan Decries Comparisons Between South Film Industry and Bollywood, Labeling It ‘Not Right’

Amitabh Bachchan, an iconic figure in the Hindi film industry, recently addressed a gathering of students, reflecting on the industry’s reception of criticism and the technological evolution in cinema. The veteran actor, with decades of experience, shared insights on the perennial debate surrounding the morality of films and the industry’s impact on societal attitudes.

Acknowledging the diverse spectrum of films annually released by Bollywood, Bachchan emphasized the varied responses they evoke, ranging from blockbuster success to public discontent over certain storylines. He highlighted how cinema draws inspiration from real-life experiences, asserting its intrinsic power to reflect societal nuances.

Bachchan drew from personal anecdotes, including his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s fondness for repeatedly watching films on cassette during his twilight years. He recounted his father’s profound perspective, cherishing the encapsulation of poetic justice within the cinematic realm, a sentiment resonating with the enduring appeal of storytelling in films.

In discussing the comparison between Bollywood and regional cinema, Bachchan commended the flourishing landscape of regional films, particularly lauding Malayalam and Tamil cinema for their authenticity and aesthetic appeal. He debunked the notion of superiority between industries, emphasizing the universality of storytelling transcending regional boundaries.
