Vinod Kapri’s Pyre To Premiere At London Indian Film Festival

National award-winning filmmaker Vinod Kapri will premiere his Hindi film ‘Pyre’ in the UK this July. The film will screen at the prestigious London Indian Film Festival on 22nd July 2025 at BFI Southbank.

A second screening will happen in Birmingham on 23rd July 2025.

‘Pyre’ has already gained widespread praise at multiple international film festivals. The film portrays the heart-wrenching story of an elderly couple living in the Himalayan hills. They battle loneliness and societal changes while clinging to their love and dignity.

The inspiration for ‘Pyre’ came during Kapri’s 2017 visit to Munsiyari, Uttarakhand.

Witnessing abandoned villages due to mass migration moved him deeply. That emotional experience laid the foundation for this powerful narrative.

The film stars Padam Singh, a retired army soldier, and Heera Devi, a farmer, both non-professional actors. They hail from Berinag, a small village in Uttarakhand.

Critics have praised their performances as raw, honest, and incredibly moving.

Kapri revealed that many emotional scenes were real. “When Amma-Bubu cry, those are genuine tears,” he shared.

The film captures not just personal grief but also the fading culture of the Himalayan communities.

‘Pyre’ also highlights the issue of hill depopulation caused by a lack of resources and opportunities. The film goes beyond entertainment, raising awareness about social and cultural erosion in remote Indian villages.

Posters for the UK premiere have been released, creating excitement among diaspora audiences. The film continues to gather momentum globally, offering a rare cinematic glimpse into life in the Indian Himalayas.

This emotional drama is expected to resonate with global audiences, bridging cultures through storytelling filled with empathy and truth.
